The holidays season is soon approaching.  In thinking about others in this season, we should also be thinking about Toys for Tots.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2015, The Chris Wolf Show will host Joan Vargas. The show will be broadcast on WRFR Community Radio, Channel 7 Maine Coast TV, and streamed live on www.mainecoast.tv/streaming, 7:00-8:00 a.m.

Joan Vargas of Thomaston is the Toys for Tots volunteer coordinator for Knox/Lincoln/Waldo counties. Joan is a lifelong volunteer serving in her children’s schools, with the Marine Corp League, the humane society and the Thomaston Dog Park Association.

The Marine Corps has a genuine concern for the communities in which they live and a deep compassion for the under privileged children of America.  That’s the side that exemplifies the spirit of the Marine Corp reserves Toys for Tots program.

As history has proven time and time again, Marines do not do anything halfway.  Since 1947, Marines have distributed over 494,000,000 toys and brought the joy of Christmas and a message of hope to more than 230,000,000 children.

Today, nationally, Marine Corp units collect and distribute an average of 18 million toys to an average of 7.0 million children each year.

Locally, in 2014, Toys for Tots distributed 8,565 toys in Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties to 2,288 children.

If you’d like to find out about how to share the holiday spirit a little wider, how to help Toys for Tots, or more about Joan Vargas one our active community members, please tune in.  As always, the show will be interesting and enlightening.
