David Sulin has sailed all over the world during his 42 years as a merchant mariner, but his special love is the American Civil War.
As a child, Sulin’s interest in the Civil War was peaked by visits to the Edwin Libby GAR Post in Rockland. Neighbor Maude Winchenbach was president of the Rockland GAR and took Sulin and her son Ronnie to the GAR Hall at Union and Limerock to help with bean suppers. During these visits, he became fascinated with the many artifacts from the Civil War and the photographs of the participants.
Since that time, Sulin has made frequent visits to Civil War battlefields, done extensive research, and participated in Civil War reenactments. Every spring, he takes a small contingent of students from the Riley School to Gettysburg where they immerse themselves in the experiences of the Maine soldiers who fought there.
On the May 2, 2016 The Chris Wolf Show, our special guest David Sulin wore the uniform of a civil war soldier and brought artifacts from his personal collection.
