REIGNING CATS
AND DOGS
Produced by Ned Lightner and Craig Mathieson
“Reigning Cats and Dogs” is a new weekly program showing on Thursdays
at 7:30 P.M. on Maine Coast TV Channel 7 as well as Belfast Community
TV channel 2. The program features the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens
living at area animal shelters, but looking for loving homes in the
community. The half hour show is a collaboration between the
Camden/Rockport animal rescue league, The Knox County humane society
and public access producers Craig Mathieson and Ned Lightner in
Rockland and Belfast . Ned Lightner of Belfast Community TV has
produced pet adoption programs in several communities. “Pet adoption
shows have proven to be an important tool for shelters to reach out to
the public. Shelters use the programs not only to showcase shelter
pets, but also as a means of educating the public about topics such as
proper pet care and the importance of spay/neuter programs.”
Programs will alternate weekly between the Knox county humane society
in Rockland and the Camden/Rockport animal rescue league. These are the
two largest shelters in the area and the ones that wished to
participate in project. The first show will originate from the Camden
Rockport animal rescue league.
This is the first program series to be produced collaboratively with
public access channels in Belfast and Rockland. The programs will be
shown at the same day and time on both stations. This will allow the
program to be promoted more effectively in both communities.
