Marty Jones, President of the Rockland Women’s Golf Association, and Kathy Sprowl, Chair of the Midcoast Cancer Classic, shares information about this important fundraiser, which benefits local individuals who are dealing with cancer.

Enjoy these scenes of 2018 summer celebrations in MidCoast Maine at the Lincolnville Center Strawberry Festival and the Lincolnville Beach Blueberry WingDing.The Strawberry Festival features Rosey Gerry and his Band, a puppet show in the old church, including interviews with Pat Shannon and Susan Sarvario. At the Blueberry WingDing, the annual fundraiser for the Lincolnville Improvement Society, we chat with many volunteers, including Linda Armstrong and Sheryl Winters at the craft tent, Roberta Heald at the food tent, and Judy Moore , who shared with us information about her very successful program “Tennis For Fun”.

Maine Lobster Festival – Coronation of the Maine Sea Goddess 2018

Watch the complete evening’s program, including the introductions of the 2018 Sea Princesses , musical interludes, speeches by the retiring Sea Goddess and the retiring Chair of the Coronation Committee – Sharon Lombardo, and concluding with the coronation of the 2018 Maine Sea Goddess. The Sea Princesses were escorted by members of the Coast Guard stationed in Rockland , Maine, and by crew members from the naval vessel Hue City, visiting in Rockland for the Festival. Taking part in the event were King Neptune and his court and Blackbeard the Pirate.

The Launch of the Friendship Sloop “Blackjack”

The 118 year-old Friendship Sloop “Blackjack” was extensively refitted over 3 years and then launched in the old tradition from the Sail, Power, and Steam Museum in Rockland, Maine on July 7, 2018. The Blackjack returns to Penobscot Bay to become the oldest working fishing/lobster boat still in use in Maine. Members of the public can take tours on the sloop to observe and participate in lobster fishing as it was 100 years ago. The launch festivities included a team of oxen hauling the sloop to launch on rollers, fiddlers, a bagpiper, and a large crowd of admiring onlookers and helpers.

Thomaston Fourth of July Parade 2018

Watch this edition of “Going Places” to see the complete July 4th parade in Thomaston, Maine. This is the biggest July 4th parade in the Midcoast area, featuring bands, vintage automobiles, commercial floats, re-enactors, politicians, floats featuring local history, the Maine Sea Goddess with “Rocky” the giant lobster, the Maine Wild Blueberry Queen and her court, and other local personalities.

Penobscot Bay YMCA Boat Auction and Nautical Fair 2018

Every year, The Penobscot Bay YMCA in Rockport, Maine, holds a boat auction to raise money for the Y Summer Camp Programs. Local people donate boats, from paddle boards and kayaks to large sail & power boats, as well as many nautical-related items. This auction benefits the community in two ways – the auction attendees can get some excellent bargains, and the children of the community benefit from the money that provides funds for the Summer Camp Programs. Don’t miss this event, held each year on the second Saturday in June.
