The July 2023 issue of Down East Magazine has a short description of Camden, Maine’s Montgomery Dam and Falls as part of an 8-page feature on Maine’s waterfalls.
The spectacular Montgomery Dam Falls were included among Down East’s five “Convenient Cascades” that don’t require any hiking. The description and text read:
Megunticook River Falls
Camden, Maine
Height: 24 feet
Directions: Camden Harbor, off Main St.
“Tucked just behind the shops and restaurants of downtown, this big, noisy falls at the mouth of the river is regulated by the 200-year-old Montgomery Dam — and it comes with a view of the yachts and tall ships and a Camden Hills backdrop.”
Camden is a town of MANY waterfalls on the Megunticook River!
In addition to the “big, noisy” Montgomery Dam Falls cascading into the Camden Harbor, Camden also has the Knox Mill Waterfall at 40 Washington Street, and another on Knowlton Street, both walkable from the Camden Harbor. And a short drive up the river are the falls at the Seabright Dam on Mt. Battie Street, Camden, with a riverwalk below the dam.
