2022 Maine Lobster Festival Parade

2022 Maine Lobster Festival Parade

Watch this video of the Maine Lobster Festival Parade, celebrating the 75th year of the Festival. The Grand Marshalls of the parade this year were the 2022 State Championship Teams from three local high schools – Oceanside’s Girls Basketball Team, Camden Hills’ Girls Swim team, and Medomak Valley’s Cheering Team. Also recognized was the 2020 Parade Grand Marshal – Rockland’s “Maine Lobster Lady” – 102 Year Old Virginia Oliver, escorted by a vehicle from the Owls Head Transportation Museum. The 2020 Parade was cancelled due to COVID, so Virginia Oliver finally had her chance this year to ride in the parade. The retiring King Neptune, portrayed for many years by Brian Messing, had his last ride on the Sea Goddess float, which he had personally redesigned and redecorated for this year’s parade. For many years Brian has portrayed the pirate Blackbeard and more recently King Neptune, walking the Festival Grounds and delighting the festival attendees. We thank him and the many other volunteers who make the Lobster Festival a success every year.

The Surprising Science of Yawning

The Surprising Science of Yawning

Yawning is one of the first things we learn to do. “Learn” may not even be quite the right word. Johanna de Vries, a professor of obstetrics at Vrije University Amsterdam, has discovered that the human fetus yawns during its first trimester in the womb. And, unless we...

Peter Zeihan — Russia: Prepping for the Next War

If you care at all about where the world is heading, this video is well worth watching.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has given another of his…heavy-on-the-revisionist-history speeches. This time, he categorized the Great Northern War–the 18th century conflict that saw the Tsardom of Russia successfully challenge Sweden for Baltic superiority–as one where Russia “reclaimed” such territories as Estonia and Latvia. As with Moscow’s claims that places like Ukraine have always been a part of Russia, this is just simply not true.

Joe Steinberger — WRFR

Joe Steinberger — WRFR

Unfortunately, I think that sometimes people are more programmed to be critical instead of praising. I want to thank Joe Steinberger and Stephen Carroll for creating WRFR. This station represents the best of who we, as a community, are. We respect all points of view and debate them respectfully. WRFR is a wonderful addition to our community. It is my hope that we will be able maintain and improve upon the great foundation that they have provided.
