Headed up the Bay To Isleboro Island with Peter Ralston

Featured, Peter Ralston

Dear Friends,

A week ago today we headed up the bay to Islesboro Island where I am honored to be showing this summer at the lovely little Double Door Gallery. My wife, Terri, our gallery manager, Sandee, her partner, Sean, and I all needed a perfect day on the water and, boy!, did we ever pick a good one!! Oh, and we took our beloved Lab, Jenny, with usโ€ฆin all, an absolutely sublime day!

The gallery is in half of an old two-room schoolhouse and while small in size, it is an exquisite space that imbues its transitory contents with an ineffable grace and presence. I had a show there back in 1996 and coordinated a show of Jamie Wyethโ€™s work there in 1997. Walking back into that space was a deep, quiet thrill to me.

Bayard Hollins, a wonderful artist whose family has long summered on the island, rents the gallery space each year and his sister-in-law, the irrepressibly charming and talented Ina Hollins manages the exhibitions. My show opens July 17th and comes down August 3rd. If you can get over to see it, great; if not, Iโ€™ll share a few pics in an upcoming email from the scene.

Because it was such a ridiculously exquisite day, and thanks to Sandeeโ€™s son, Nathan, manning our gallery back in Rockport, we could not resist dropping the hook off a tiny island on the way home for our first island respite of the season.

Sighโ€ฆa great day on RAVEN, including two islands with people near and dear to meโ€ฆand Jenny was as happy as could be.

Heaven!

from here, all cheers,
